Southwest PA AHEC is partnering with the Fayette County Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) to implement this comprehensive initiative in Fayette County that addresses asthma, diabetes, obesity, nutrition, physical activity and tobacco in schools, workplaces, health care settings and the community. The goals of this CDC initiative include public health infrastructure & capacity building , health promotion, disease management, and communication.
In 2004, the Pennsylvania Department of Health was one of three states to be awarded a federal grant to participate in a national program called Steps To A Healthier US. This grant is funded nationally by the Steps To A HealthierUS Cooperative Agreement of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Pennsylvania Department of Health selected Fayette County as one of three communities (along with Tioga County and Luzerne County) to participate in Steps To A Healthier PA .
